Keto on a vegan-curious week: how to swap macros without breaking ketosis

You don't have to pick a tribe. A 7-day rotation between 2 keto days, 3 vegan days, and 2 hybrid days keeps protein high, insulin steady, and the plate interesting.

Here's the 7-day pattern we recommend to Volya users who want low-carb benefits without giving up plant-forward eating.

The rotation

  • Mon, Thu → Keto days. Total carbs ≤ 25 g. Heavy fat + protein. Workouts skewed to strength + zone-2 cardio.
  • Tue, Wed, Fri → Vegan days. 35–45% carbs, prioritize legumes + soy + seitan. Workouts skewed to volume + endurance.
  • Sat, Sun → Hybrid. Mediterranean style: fish, eggs, olive oil, quinoa, lots of veg. No tracking obsession.

Why rotation beats orthodoxy

  1. Glycogen cycling. Two days of low carbs depletes muscle glycogen; high-carb days refill it. You feel stronger on Wednesday's run than if you stayed keto all week.
  2. Microbiome diversity. Vegan days = fiber. Keto days = different fatty acids. Both feed different bacterial colonies. Strict keto for months tanks fiber-loving species.
  3. Social sanity. You can eat at restaurants. You can join family dinners. You can travel.
